3D-Printed Thermoset Biocomposites Based on Forest Residues by Delayed Extrusion of Cold Masterbatch (DECMA)

We developed a 3D-printing process based on thermoset biocomposites termed Delayed Extrusion of Cold Masterbatch (DECMA). DECMA is processing method, controlling the degree curing, that takes some responsibility 3D printing from materials and as such can be used to print otherwise unprintable materials. First, masterbatch was produced by mixing bio-based resin (bioepoxy) sawdust lignin. This paste partially cured at room temperature until reaching an apparent viscosity suitable for extrusion (≈105 mPa·s 1 s–1). The system next cooled (5–10 °C) delay subsequent hardening prior printing. printability biocomposite systematically investigated merits delayed extrusion, via DECMA, were assessed. It found allowed revalorization lignin printing, direct led failed prints. Our approach afforded cost-effective, shear-thinning dopes with high content (58–71%). 3D-printed demonstrated good machinability computer numerical control (CNC). Overall, benefits introduced method are shown on-demand solidification during additive manufacturing.
